Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna has taken another major step in his promising career after making his Premier League debut for Brighton and Hove Albion in their emphatic 4 0 victory over Aston Villa.
The 19 year old came off the bench in the 78th minute, replacing Mats Wieffer as Brighton comfortably controlled the closing stages of Sunday’s encounter at the Amex Stadium.
Yohanna’s introduction marked the beginning of what could become an exciting chapter in his career after the Nigerian attacker made the move to Brighton from Swedish side AIK during the summer.
The teenager arrived in England with considerable expectations after Brighton reportedly paid an initial £24.2 million for his services, with the transfer potentially rising to £26 million with add ons.
His Premier League debut came in spectacular circumstances as Brighton produced one of their strongest performances of the opening weekend.
Jack Hinshelwood scored twice, while Maxim De Cuyper also found the net. Brighton’s fourth goal came through an own goal as Fabian Hurzeler’s side completely overwhelmed Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
Although Yohanna had only a short spell on the pitch, the appearance represents a significant milestone for the young Nigerian.
At 19 years and 55 days, Yohanna became the fourth youngest Nigerian player to feature in the Premier League. Only Victor Anichebe, Kelechi Iheanacho and Shola Ameobi had previously made their league debuts at a younger age.
