Former Super Eagles striker Tosin Dosunmu has compared Rafiu Durosinmi with Victor Osimhen after the Genk forward made an impressive start to the Belgian Pro League season.
Durosinmi has quickly become one of Genk’s key attacking players since joining the Belgian club from Pisa during the summer.
The 23 year old has scored five goals in six league appearances, immediately showing the form that made Genk spend heavily to bring him to Belgium.
Dosunmu believes there are similarities between Durosinmi and Osimhen, particularly when it comes to the Genk striker’s ability in the air.
“Rafiu sometimes reminds me a bit of Victor Osimhen,” Dosunmu said, while pointing out that Durosinmi is particularly strong aerially.
Durosinmi has already shown that quality during his early weeks in Belgium, giving Genk another option in attack with his physical presence and movement around the box.
The Nigerian striker’s form has also arrived at an important time for the Super Eagles.
Victor Osimhen is currently recovering from a groin injury and his availability for Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers remains uncertain.
That could create an opportunity for other strikers to make a stronger case under coach Eric Chelle.
Durosinmi has previously featured for Nigeria and was part of the squad during the Unity Cup earlier this year. His recent club form could put him firmly in the conversation again if Osimhen is unavailable.
Despite his impressive numbers, Dosunmu believes Durosinmi still has room to improve. The former striker noted that the forward is not yet at his best physically and still needs more understanding with his Genk teammates.
