Porto Push For Reduced Transfer Fee As Moffi’s Future Remains Uncertain

FC Porto are reportedly hoping to negotiate a lower transfer fee for Terem Moffi as discussions over the striker’s permanent move continue ahead of the summer window.

According to  report, the newly crowned Portuguese champions are unwilling to activate the initially agreed €8 million clause with OGC Nice, believing the figure no longer reflects the Nigerian forward’s current situation and role within the squad.

As a result, Porto are now exploring the possibility of striking a cheaper deal for the Super Eagles striker before the end of the season.

Terem Moffi

Moffi joined the Dragons after a difficult spell at Nice, where tensions reportedly grew between the player, sections of the supporters, and the club’s hierarchy following an alleged altercation involving fans. Since then, relations between both parties have remained strained, with reports in France suggesting the Ligue 1 side are no longer expecting the forward to return.

That situation could work in Porto’s favour.

With Nice seemingly prepared to part ways permanently, the Portuguese giants are attempting to use the circumstances to lower the asking price and avoid paying the full agreed amount.

Still, Moffi’s spell in Portugal has been far from explosive.

The 25-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular starting place under manager Vítor Bruno, making 15 appearances in all competitions most of them from the bench. He has managed two goals and one assist during that period, flashes of quality that have shown his potential but perhaps not enough to fully convince Porto to meet Nice’s valuation.

Even so, there remains belief within the club that the Nigerian international still has plenty to offer, particularly given his physical presence, movement, and previous goal-scoring record in France.

Before his fallout at Nice, Moffi had established himself as one of the most dangerous forwards in Ligue 1, impressing first at Lorient before earning a move to the Allianz Riviera.

Now, however, his future hangs in the balance once again.

With Porto keen on keeping him, but only at the right price the coming weeks are expected to be crucial in determining where the former Lorient striker will be playing next season.
