Enugu Rangers have surged back to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table after another dramatic round of fixtures, underlining just how unpredictable this season’s title race has become.

The Flying Antelopes edged past rivals Enyimba with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in Enugu, a result that proved decisive in reshaping the standings at a crucial stage of the campaign. The comeback win showed resilience and composure, as Rangers responded strongly after falling behind to secure maximum points.

That victory, combined with a slip from closest challengers Rivers United, has pushed Rangers to 59 points, giving them a narrow lead at the summit with only a handful of matches left to play.

Rivers United’s setback came in dramatic fashion away to Kano Pillars, where a late goal sealed a 2-1 defeat and handed the advantage back to the Enugu side. The result dealt a major blow to their title ambitions and reopened the race heading into the final stretch.

The shifting momentum highlights the “see-saw” nature of this season’s NPFL title chase. Just days earlier, both Rangers and Rivers United had been level on points, with only goal difference separating them, while other contenders remained within touching distance.

Now, with only a few games left in the 2025/26 campaign, the margin for error has become almost non-existent. Rangers have seized control at the right time, but the one-point gap over Rivers United ensures that the title race remains wide open.

Elsewhere, the battle for continental places is also heating up, with teams like Abia Warriors, Ikorodu City, and shooting stars all pushing to finish strongly as the season approaches its climax.

With tension building across the league, every remaining fixture now carries massive implications, and if recent weeks are anything to go by, more twists are still to come before a champion is crowned.
