Kelechi Iheanacho could be on his way out of Celtic F.C. this summer after the Scottish champions decided not to activate the option to extend his contract.

The Nigerian striker joined Celtic last summer on a one year deal after terminating his contract with Sevilla, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement for another year.

However, the move has not gone as planned. Injuries and fitness issues have limited Iheanacho’s involvement this season, restricting him to just 14 appearances across all competitions. In those matches, he managed three goals and one assist.

Because of the limited impact, Celtic have reportedly informed his representatives that they will not activate the extension clause in his contract. That decision means the Super Eagles forward will become a free agent when the current deal expires at the end of the season.

The 29 year old could now be set for another move, with interest previously coming from clubs in the Middle East before he chose to join Celtic, where he reunited with former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Iheanacho is expected to consider new options as he looks to revive his career after a challenging spell in Scotland.
