Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in fast-rising Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna, sending scouts to Sweden last Thursday to watch the AIK winger in action.
The 18-year-old, who was born in Bauchi State, only arrived in Europe last summer from Kaduna-based academy Ikon Allah FC. He signed for AIK on June 29, 2025, agreeing to a contract that runs until December 2029. In the ten months since, he has broken into the first team and registered four goals and three assists in 15 appearances this season.
According to a report by Swedish outlet Expressen, relayed by Sport Witness, Spurs scouts were present at AIK’s 2-1 defeat to Degerfors IF. Yohanna started on the right flank and completed the full 90 minutes.
When asked about Tottenham’s presence after the match, the teenager played down the attention. “No, I don’t know. I didn’t know there were scouts here. I’m just focusing on my game. My focus is completely on AIK,” he said. Pressed on his long-term ambitions, Yohanna added: “Of course I have a dream.”
Despite ending up on the winning side, Degerfors IF manager Henok Goitom was full of praise for the Nigerian youngster, revealing that his coaching staff had to create a special tactical plan to contain him. “Yohanna is an exceptional player. I love watching him play, he plays with a street football style,” Goitom said. “We told Samba Diatara that he is very good, and to Elias Barsoum that we needed to double up on him.”
Yohanna made his AIK debut on August 17, 2025, as an 89th-minute substitute against IFK Göteborg. Three days later, he was handed his first start in a Svenska Cupen qualifier against Hudiksvalls FF, a match AIK won 7-0. His scoring breakthrough came on March 9, 2026, when he netted his first two senior goals in a 4-0 demolition of BK Häcken to secure a Swedish Cup quarter-final spot. He scored again in the quarter-final against GAIS, though AIK lost 3-2 and crashed out.
His first Allsvenskan goal arrived on April 5, 2026, in AIK’s season opener at Strawberry Arena, confirming his arrival on the Swedish top-flight stage.
Tottenham are not the only club tracking Yohanna’s development. The Expressen report notes that several European sides are monitoring the teenager, whose pace and direct running style have made him one of the most exciting young prospects in Scandinavian football.
Yohanna’s emergence offers yet another attacking option coming through the European ranks. The Super Eagles already boast established wide players like Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, and Samuel Chukwueze, but a prospect of Yohanna’s trajectory adds depth to the pipeline that head coach Eric Chelle is actively trying to expand.
Yohanna remains grounded. His focus is on AIK, where his contract ties him until the end of 2029. But with Tottenham’s scouting department now actively filing reports, his dream of moving to a bigger stage may materialise sooner than many expect.
