Sadiq Umar delivered another timely performance for Valencia, finding the net in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Girona in La Liga on Saturday.

The Nigerian striker was on target in the second half, scoring Valencia’s crucial second goal as Los Che secured all three points at the Mestalla. The result provided a significant boost in their push to stay clear of danger, with the club locked in a tightly contested battle in the lower half of the table.

Valencia had taken the lead shortly after the break before Sadiq doubled their advantage, showing sharp positioning and composure inside the box. Girona responded with a goal of their own, but the home side held firm to seal a vital win.

For Sadiq, it marks a continuation of his growing influence in Spain after recently ending a goal drought and rediscovering form at a crucial stage of the season. The 29-year-old has gradually become an important figure in Valencia’s attack, stepping up when the team needs him most.

His latest performance is also likely to catch the attention of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who has been monitoring attacking options ahead of upcoming international fixtures. With competition for places in Nigeria’s forward line intensifying, Sadiq’s return to form could not have come at a better time.

Having previously struggled for consistency, the striker now appears to be regaining confidence, using his physical presence and finishing ability to make a decisive impact. If he maintains this momentum, he could yet force his way back into regular consideration for the national team.

As the season enters its final stretch, Sadiq’s resurgence may prove vital not only for Valencia’s survival hopes but also for his ambitions on the international stage, where every performance is being closely watched.
