'I'm Ready for Super Eagles!' – FC Dallas Star Dumps England, Netherlands to Repay Naija Roots

FC Dallas defender Osaze Urhoghide has officially pledged his international future to the Super Eagles, snubbing overtures from England and the Netherlands in a heartfelt bid to “repay his fatherland.”

The 24-year-old defender, who smashed FC Dallas’ transfer record for a defender with his ₦3.2 billion ($2.5m) signing in February 2025, confirmed his decision in statement, According to The Punch:

“I am ready to play for my fatherland, Nigeria. I have informed family members of my readiness to play for the Super Eagles. I am also using this opportunity to let the Nigeria Football Federation know that I am ready.”

Born in Rotterdam to Nigerian parents and raised in England from age five, Urhoghide’s eligibility for three nations sparked a fierce tug-of-war. But the versatile defender, dubbed “The Wall” for his rock-solid displays in Major League Soccer (MLS), has chosen to wear the green-and-white, declaring: Naija no dey carry last!

Why Urhoghide’s Decision is a blessing for the Super Eagles:

  • Desperately Needed Reinforcements: With aging stars like William Troost-Ekong (35), Leon Balogun (36), and injury-prone Semi Ajayi, Urhoghide’s arrival will inject a fresh jollof energy into Nigeria’s backline.
  • Tactical Swiss Army Knife: He is Comfortable as a center-back, right-back, or defensive midfielder, his “Aguero-like” versatility mirrors former captain Austin Eguavoen’s legendary adaptability.
  • Global Pedigree: From battling Real Betis in the Europa League with Celtic to mastering MLS physicality, Urhoghide will bring elite experience to a squad that is craving consistency at the back.

From Wimbledon to Dallas – The Making of a Super Eagle

Urhoghide’s journey is like a Nollywood movie script:

  • 2018: Signed his first pro deal at AFC Wimbledon.
  • 2021: Exploded at Sheffield Wednesday, winning Player of the Month and attracting Leeds, Crystal Palace, and Club Brugge.
  • 2023: Tested himself in Belgium (KV Oostende) and France (Amiens) before conquering MLS with FC Dallas.

It’s not Confirmed yet if Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle will fast-track Urhoghide into the squad for May’s Unity Cup in London, where Nigeria will face Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.

But if he decides to, His paperwork is untainted by prior youth caps for England or the Netherlands, the defender could debut as early as next month and Our Ghana-must-go bag of talents just got heavier!
