Super Eagles winger Femi Azeez has welcomed comparisons with former Nigeria international Peter Odemwingie but insists he is focused on building his own identity in the game.

The Millwall forward has quickly become one of the most talked about Nigerian players following a remarkable breakthrough campaign in the English Championship and his impressive introduction to international football.

Azeez has attracted widespread attention in recent weeks after earning recognition for his performances at club level and making a strong impression whenever given opportunities with the national team. His pace, direct style of play and eye for goal have led many supporters to draw similarities with Odemwingie, one of Nigeria’s most successful forwards in the Premier League era.

Despite appreciating the praise, the 24 year old believes it is important to create his own legacy rather than live in the shadow of former stars.

Speaking about the comparisons, Azeez admitted he hears them regularly but remains determined to carve out his own path in football.

The winger enjoyed an outstanding 2025–26 campaign with Millwall, contributing goals and assists as the London club pushed for promotion. His performances earned him a place in the Championship Team of the Season and placed him on the radar of several Premier League clubs. Reports in England have linked Aston Villa and other top flight sides with a potential summer move.

Azeez’s rise has also strengthened his position within the Super Eagles setup. After receiving recognition from national team coach Eric Chelle, the former Reading attacker has openly expressed his desire to continue learning from some of Africa’s biggest stars.

The winger admitted that the prospect of sharing a dressing room with players such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman is a major motivation as he looks to develop his game at the highest level.

Born in England to a Nigerian father and Spanish mother, Azeez was eligible to represent multiple countries internationally before committing his future to Nigeria. The exciting attacker has repeatedly spoken about his ambition to succeed with the Super Eagles and establish himself among the country’s next generation of stars.

With interest growing from Premier League clubs and his reputation continuing to rise, Azeez appears set for another important chapter in his career. While comparisons with Odemwingie may continue, the Millwall winger is determined to ensure football fans remember him for achievements that are uniquely his own.
