Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has begun his road to recovery after Czech champions Slavia Prague confirmed that he successfully underwent surgery on the Achilles tendon injury he suffered during Nigeria’s recent international camp.

The 26-year-old centre-back picked up the injury in training ahead of the Super Eagles’ high-profile friendly against Portugal, forcing him to miss the encounter and raising concerns over his fitness ahead of the new club season.

Ogbu had been actively involved in Nigeria’s recent fixtures, featuring in the Unity Cup matches against Zimbabwe and Jamaica. He also started the Super Eagles’ 2-2 draw with Poland before making way for Semi Ajayi at half-time.

In an official statement released by Slavia Prague, the club revealed that the defender underwent a successful operation at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice and has now started rehabilitation.

“During the international break, Igoh Ogbu ruptured his Achilles tendon. In recent days, he underwent surgery at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice, and the operation was successful,” the club stated.

While the surgery was a success, Ogbu is expected to spend around three months on the sidelines as he focuses on recovery and regaining full fitness.

The injury comes as a significant setback for the former Lillestrøm defender, who enjoyed an impressive campaign with Slavia Prague last season and has become an increasingly important figure in the Super Eagles setup under Eric Chelle.

Despite the disappointment, both club and country will be encouraged by the positive outcome of the surgery, with hopes that Ogbu will return stronger and ready to resume his development at the highest level.

His absence will leave a temporary gap in Slavia Prague’s defensive options, while Nigeria’s coaching crew will also monitor his recovery closely ahead of future international assignments.
