The 26-year-old believes his experience in the Primeira Liga could prove valuable when the Super Eagles take on one of Europe’s most technically gifted sides.
“I’ll try my best to lead the team as much as I can. I played in the Portuguese league and won the championship with FC Porto, although I only spent half a season there. I know a little about how the Portuguese national team play and how their players play.”
Moffi’s familiarity with Portuguese football could offer Nigeria a useful edge against a side packed with players competing in Europe’s top leagues. During his spell with Porto, the striker faced several members of Portugal’s current squad either directly or through the tactical demands of the league, giving him first-hand insight into their style of play.
The former Lorient forward is not alone in possessing knowledge of Portuguese football. Defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Zaidu Sanusi have also built their careers in the Primeira Liga, providing Eric Chelle’s side with additional experience ahead of the clash in Leiria.
Nigeria will, however, face a stern examination against a Portugal team renowned for its possession-based football, tactical discipline and attacking quality. The friendly offers the Super Eagles another opportunity to measure themselves against elite opposition as they continue preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Having gone eleven games without defeat in regulation time, confidence is high within the Nigerian camp. The return of Moffi has further strengthened the squad, with the striker already contributing two goals and two assists since making his comeback from a lengthy absence.
As the Super Eagles seek to extend their impressive run, Moffi will be hoping his knowledge of Portuguese football can help Nigeria secure a positive result against Roberto Martínez’s side.
