Zadok Yohanna’s rapid rise in European football has taken another significant turn, with Manchester City and Chelsea joining the race to sign the highly rated Nigerian youngster ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old winger has become one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe following a breakthrough campaign with Swedish club AIK. His performances have already attracted interest from Brighton and Newcastle United, but the entry of two of England’s biggest clubs has intensified the battle for his signature.

Yohanna only arrived at AIK from Nigerian academy side Ikon Allah Football Academy last year, but his development has been remarkable. The left-footed attacker has established himself as one of the brightest young players in the Swedish top flight, combining pace, direct dribbling and creativity in the final third.

His displays have not gone unnoticed. The youngster has contributed five goals and four assists for AIK this season, attracting scouts from across Europe and earning recognition as one of Nigeria’s most promising emerging talents.

Brighton were initially believed to be leading the race after reaching personal terms with the player and opening talks with AIK. Newcastle United subsequently stepped up their interest with an improved proposal as they looked to beat their Premier League rivals to the Nigerian’s signature.

However, fresh reports suggest Manchester City and Chelsea have now entered the picture, significantly increasing competition for one of the continent’s most exciting young prospects.

Chelsea are understood to be exploring a package worth more than €25 million, while Manchester City continue to monitor developments as they assess their options in the market.

Despite the growing interest, AIK are under no immediate pressure to sell. Yohanna remains under contract until December 2029, placing the Swedish club in a strong negotiating position as discussions continue.

The teenager’s rise has also been recognised internationally. After impressing in Sweden, he received his first invitation to the Super Eagles setup, further highlighting his growing reputation.

With several Premier League clubs now competing for his services and AIK standing firm over their valuation, Yohanna’s future is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched transfer stories involving a Nigerian player this summer.

A move away from Sweden appears increasingly likely, but the final destination remains uncertain as some of England’s biggest clubs battle for the signature of the talented winger.
