Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has linked up with the Nigerian national team in Leiria, Portugal, ahead of next week’s high-profile international friendly against Portugal.
The arrival of the AC Milan star has increased the number of players in camp to 22 as preparations intensify for the blockbuster encounter scheduled for June 10 at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria.
Chukwueze was absent from Nigeria’s recent assignments, including the Unity Cup and Wednesday’s international friendly against Poland, following the death and burial of his mother. The 27-year-old is now expected to participate fully in the team’s training session on Friday as he looks to regain match fitness and rejoin the squad.
The Super Eagles touched down in Leiria on Thursday night after their entertaining 2-2 draw against Poland. Eric Chelle’s men extended their unbeaten streak to six matches with the result, continuing a promising run of form under the Franco-Malian tactician.
Nigeria will now shift focus to Portugal, one of Europe’s strongest sides, in what promises to be a stern test ahead of future competitive fixtures. The match also presents another opportunity for Chelle to further assess his squad and build on the team’s growing momentum.
