Former Nigerian international Eric Ejiofor has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to maintain Eric Chelle as head coach of the Super Eagles, citing the team’s steady progress under the Franco-Malian tactician.
Ejiofor’s endorsement comes after another encouraging international window for Nigeria, highlighted by the Super Eagles’ impressive performances against Jamaica and Poland.
Speaking with Brila FM, the former defender commended Chelle’s willingness to introduce younger players and give opportunities to standout performers from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) during recent friendly matches.
“I really think the NFF must keep Eric Chelle as Super Eagles head coach.
“He has made significant changes to our football, as the team now plays an attractive style.”
Since taking charge, Chelle has gradually transformed the outlook of the national team, combining experienced internationals with emerging talents. His approach has not only broadened the player pool but has also created healthy competition within the squad.
The numbers further strengthen the argument for continuity. Chelle is currently enjoying an 11-match unbeaten run with the Super Eagles, a streak that has boosted confidence among supporters and stakeholders alike.
Perhaps even more impressive is the manner in which the results have been achieved. Within the last two weeks alone, the coach has managed three different squads, handed international debuts to 13 players, and trusted several footballers with little or no previous national team experience.
Twelve of those debutants featured during the Unity Cup campaign, where Nigeria lifted the trophy before following it up with a hard-fought draw against Poland.
