FIFA has officially approved the international allegiance switch of Arthur Okonkwo, confirming his eligibility to represent Nigeria at senior level. The decision, finalized on April 6, 2026, brings clarity to a process that had drawn attention in recent months.

The approval sees his registration moved from The Football Association to the Nigeria Football Federation through FIFA’s Change of Association system. With the administrative process now complete, there are no further barriers to his involvement with the national team.

Okonkwo’s eligibility is rooted in his background. Born in England to Nigerian parents, he previously represented England at youth level but did not feature in any senior competitive match. Under FIFA regulations, that opened the door for a one-time switch of nationality.

Standing at 1.98m, the goalkeeper has built his development within Arsenal FC, gaining experience through multiple loan spells across the English league system. His profile is defined by strong aerial presence, quick reflexes, and composure in build-up play.

For the Nigeria national football team, this adds another option in the goalkeeping department. It increases internal competition and offers depth as the team prepares for upcoming qualifiers and major tournaments.

With eligibility now confirmed, attention shifts to selection. The Nigeria Football Federation is yet to issue a full statement, but Okonkwo is now available for call-up, subject to form and the coaching staff’s plans.
