Something unusual has happened in Nigerian league football this season, and it says a lot about how competitive the campaign has been.

For the first time in modern Nigeria Premier Football League history, every team in the league has recorded at least one away victory.

The historic milestone was confirmed after Kwara United FC secured their first away win of the season in Katsina. That result meant the final team without an away victory finally broke the barrier.

Kwara United FC

Until that match, Kwara United were the only side yet to win on the road this season. Their victory changed that and completed a rare league-wide achievement.

Away wins have traditionally been very difficult in Nigerian football. Travel stress, intense home crowds and familiar pitch conditions often give home teams a strong advantage. Because of this, some clubs finish entire seasons without winning a single away match.

That pattern has been broken this season.

Every team in the league has now managed to take all three points away from home at least once, a sign that the gap between teams is tightening and that the league is becoming more unpredictable.

This is another reminder that this season’s NPFL campaign has been one of the most competitive in recent years, with surprises happening almost every week.
