Victor Osimhen delivered the perfect response to pre-match controversy on Sunday night, leading Galatasaray to a commanding 3-0 victory over fierce rivals Fenerbahce in one of the biggest games of the Turkish football season.

The Nigerian striker, who returned to the starting lineup after recovering from a fractured forearm, opened the scoring in the highly charged Intercontinental Derby and later made headlines again with pointed remarks aimed at Fenerbahce after the final whistle.

Osimhen had been at the centre of tension before kickoff after Fenerbahce reportedly raised concerns over the protective splint he has been wearing since suffering the injury during a UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool in March. The complaint added extra fuel to an already intense rivalry.

But on the pitch, the Super Eagles star let his football do the talking. He struck first in the 40th minute to hand Galatasaray the lead before further goals from Baris Alper Yilmaz and Lucas Torreira sealed a dominant victory at RAMS Park. The result pushed Galatasaray seven points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table with just three matches left in the campaign.

Following the match, Osimhen appeared to reference the off-field drama in his post-game comments, making it clear that he was motivated by the attempts to unsettle him before such a crucial encounter.

His performance was especially significant given the circumstances surrounding his return. The 27-year-old had only recently resumed action after surgery on his arm, yet showed no signs of rust as he completed the full 90 minutes and delivered in the biggest fixture of the season.

The win also strengthens Galatasaray’s grip on the title race and edges them closer to another domestic crown. For Fenerbahce, the defeat was a major setback in their pursuit of the championship, while for Osimhen, it was another reminder of his ability to rise when the stakes are highest.

This latest derby display further enhances the Nigerian forward’s growing reputation in Turkey, where he has become one of the league’s standout stars since arriving at Galatasaray.

As transfer links with European heavyweights continue to swirl, Osimhen’s latest statement performance could not have come at a better time.

For now, though, his focus remains firmly on helping Galatasaray finish the job and secure the league title in style.
