Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Unity Cup have taken an exciting turn after teenage sensation Zadok Yohanna received his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles senior squad as first reported by OwnGoalNigeria.

The 18-year-old winger, who has been making headlines in Sweden with AIK, has officially been handed his first senior national team call-up as head coach Eric Chelle continues to reshape the squad ahead of the summer tournament in England.

Yohanna’s invitation comes after weeks of speculation surrounding his inclusion, with reports now confirming that the Nigeria Football Federation sent his official call-up letter earlier this week. The move signals growing confidence in the youngster’s ability to compete at international level despite his age.

The Bauchi-born attacker has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past year. After joining AIK in 2025, he quickly progressed through the ranks and has already broken into the first team. His performances in the 2026 campaign have attracted widespread praise, with the teenager delivering goals, creativity, and maturity beyond his years.

His standout displays in Sweden have not gone unnoticed. Yohanna has already scored in competitive matches for AIK this season and has emerged as one of the most talked-about Nigerian prospects in Europe. His ability to operate on the right wing, combined with his pace and technical sharpness, has made him a valuable option for both club and country.

For Chelle, the Unity Cup represents an ideal platform to assess emerging talents and expand the Super Eagles pool ahead of future international assignments. The coach recently stated that the tournament would provide opportunities for new players of Nigerian descent and standout domestic performers to stake their claim for a place in the national setup.

Nigeria will enter the 2026 Unity Cup as defending champions after lifting the trophy in 2025. The tournament is scheduled to take place in London from May 26 to May 30, with the Super Eagles set to begin their campaign against Zimbabwe in the semifinal. A potential final clash against either Jamaica or India awaits should they advance.

For Yohanna, this invitation marks a major milestone in a career that is accelerating rapidly. It also offers him the chance to prove he belongs among Nigeria’s elite talents.

If given minutes in London, the teenager could become one of the breakout stars of the tournament and strengthen his case as one of the Super Eagles’ brightest long-term prospects.

All eyes will now be on whether the young winger can translate his club form onto the international stage and announce himself in Nigerian colours.
