Trabzonspor head coach Fatih Tekke has praised Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu for his outstanding form this season, while also urging the Nigerian forward to improve his ball retention during matches.
Tekke acknowledged that Onuachu has been one of the team’s most important players in the current campaign and that his impact goes beyond the goals he scores.

The Nigerian striker is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career, currently leading the Turkish Süper Lig scoring chart with 18 goals in 21 games. That tally already surpasses what he achieved in the same number of matches during his earlier spell at the club.
Despite praising his striker’s contributions, Tekke believes the Super Eagles forward can still improve certain aspects of his game.
“He has been very important for us, not just with goals but with how he improves the team’s play,” Tekke said.
However, the Trabzonspor boss also revealed the advice he recently gave the Nigerian international, pointing out that the striker sometimes loses possession too easily.
“He must be careful with the ball. Sometimes he loses it too easily, and that is something he needs to improve,” Tekke explained.

Onuachu joined Trabzonspor permanently from Southampton in 2025 after a successful loan spell and has since become the focal point of the club’s attack.
With his current form, the 2.01-metre striker has not only driven Trabzonspor’s title challenge but is also closing in on club scoring records for foreign players in the Turkish league.
While Onuachu’s goals have been invaluable, refining the finer details of his game could make the Nigerian forward even more dangerous in the closing stages of the season.
