Former Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Oliseh has voiced his disappointment that Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise chose to represent France instead of playing for Nigeria, saying the versatile forward “should be playing for the Super Eagles.”

Oliseh, who captained Nigeria during his playing career and later became head coach, made the comments during a broadcast appearance on the Global Football Insights show. He argued that Olise’s talent and flair would have been a valuable addition to the Nigerian national team.

Oliseh was particularly frustrated that Olise opted to play for Les Bleus at senior level despite being eligible for multiple countries, including Nigeria through his father. The winger has represented France at youth and senior levels, making his senior debut in a 2024 UEFA Nations League match.

Oliseh said that watching Olise in action for France often stirs mixed emotions among supporters of the Super Eagles.

“When I see Olise play, he gets me so angry. I’m just saying this guy should not be wearing the French national team jersey; he should be wearing the green-white-green of Nigeria.”

He is so good and might one day contend for the Ballon d’Or. Defenders are feeling helpless against him, and now they foul him, insult him to provoke him, and he is a quiet person

He added that despite his disappointment, he also respects Olise’s talent and believes he is one of the most exciting attackers in the modern game.

Olise’s comments just added more frustration among some Nigerian fans and pundits who feel the national team missed out on a gifted player who could have strengthened their squad, especially in recent qualification campaigns and major tournaments.
