Maduka Okoye, the Nigerian goalkeeper for Serie A club Udinese, is poised to make his return to action this October, following the completion of a two-month suspension imposed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

Okoye, 26, was investigated for suspicious betting activity related to a yellow card he received during Udinese’s 2-1 triumph over Lazio in March 2024. Betting markets reportedly surged on him being booked in that match, a yellow card was issued in the 64th minute for time-wasting.

In July 2025, the tribunal cleared Okoye of any match-fixing or sporting fraud. However, he was found to have breached fair play rules under Article 4 of the Federal Sports Justice Code, resulting in a two-month ban effective from August 18 to October 19, which forced him to miss both domestic league and international fixtures.

With his suspension now over, Okoye is expected to return to Udinese’s starting lineup for their Serie A fixture at Cremonese on October 20, 2025, as reported by local Italian news outlets.

Udinese’s head coach Kosta Runjaic has confirmed the goalkeeper’s readiness, noting that Okoye has maintained strong training levels during the lay-off. Teammate Daniele Padelli also expressed confidence, saying Okoye has been preparing well and is “ready to step in immediately.”
