Nigeria’s Super Eagles officially secured a spot in the CAF World Cup playoffs after their emphatic 4–0 win over Benin Republic in Uyo, a result that proved crucial in sealing the fourth and final playoff position for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

That decisive fourth goal late in the match not only capped a dominant performance but also gave Nigeria the edge on goal difference, confirming their progression to the next round of the qualifiers.

According to CAF’s confirmed schedule, the Super Eagles will face Gabon in the first semifinal on November 13, 2025, in Morocco. The winner of that match will advance to the final, where they’ll take on either Cameroon or DR Congo on November 16, also in Morocco.

The playoff tournament will feature Africa’s four best group runners-up, battling it out in a short knockout format, semifinals followed by a final to determine the team that will represent the continent in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs slated for March 2026.

The winner of the CAF playoffs will then face other continental representatives from around the world in the intercontinental playoff stage, including:
🇧🇴 Bolivia (South America – CONMEBOL)
🇳🇨 New Caledonia (Oceania – OFC)
One team from Asia (AFC)
Two teams from North & Central America (CONCACAF)

Only two nations from this intercontinental stage will ultimately qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

For Nigeria, this is another opportunity to return to the global stage after missing out on Qatar 2022. The Super Eagles will now set their sights on Gabon, knowing that victory in Morocco could bring them one step closer to reclaiming their place among the world’s elite.
