Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Lesotho 1-2 in Matchday 9 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification rounds courtesy of a penalty by Captain William Troost-Ekong and a debut goal from new eagle Akor Adams.

Nigeria who are in a do-or-die phase in the bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket did just enough to earn all 3 points on the night.

Although it wasn’t a convincing performance, It started from a disappointing First half where the Super Eagles couldn’t string passes together talk more of creating any clear-cut chance.

The second half however — brought a bit of spirit from the Super Eagles and was awarded a Penalty after a Lesotho defender handled the ball in the Penalty area and the captain stepped up to put Nigeria in front from the spot.

Minutes later Akor Adams who replaced Tolu Arokodare to make his debut doubled Nigeria’s lead.

Nigeria soon conceded from a corner kick after mix-up between Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and his defence.

The win takes Nigeria to 14 points on the log, still behind Benin Republic who got a narrow 0-1 win in Rwanda and South Africa who dropped points by playing out a 0-0 draw against Zimbabwe.

The Super Eagles will now shift all attention towards the Next game against Benin Republic in Uyo on Tuesday hoping to grab another 3 points and perhaps a favour from Rwanda against South Africa.
