A potential blockbuster move for Victor Osimhen to Barcelona is facing a major stumbling block, with the Nigerian striker’s salary emerging as the key issue slowing down negotiations.

Barcelona’s long-standing admiration for Osimhen is no secret, as the Spanish giants continue their search for a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski. The Super Eagles forward fits the profile perfectly, combining pace, power and a consistent eye for goal that has made him one of Europe’s most feared strikers.

However, turning that interest into a deal is proving far more complicated.

Reports indicate that Osimhen currently earns around €21 million annually, a figure that sits well above what Barcelona are comfortably able to accommodate under their financial structure.

This wage demand is now considered the biggest obstacle to any potential transfer.

Even with the club gradually recovering from financial difficulties, strict La Liga regulations and internal wage controls remain in place. Barcelona have been actively trying to reduce their salary bill in recent seasons, making a high-earning signing like Osimhen a difficult fit.

The situation leaves the Catalan club in a familiar balancing act between ambition and reality. Osimhen is admired internally, with key figures at the club reportedly convinced by his qualities, but the financial commitment required could force Barcelona to look elsewhere.

Beyond wages, the overall cost of the deal adds another layer of complexity. The 27-year-old forward, currently starring for Galatasaray, is valued in the region of €75 million or more, meaning any move would require a significant outlay both in transfer fee and long-term salary.

For now, Osimhen remains a dream target rather than a concrete deal. Unless Barcelona can create space within their wage structure or negotiate a reduced financial package, one of Africa’s top forwards may have to wait before making a switch to Camp Nou.

As the summer window approaches, this is a transfer story that could hinge less on footballing desire and more on financial reality.
