Paul Onuachu’s remarkable form in Turkey has earned him a flattering comparison with fellow Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, underlining just how important he has become to Trabzonspor’s title push.

Former Turkish international Abdullah Ercan believes the towering striker plays a role for Trabzonspor similar to Osimhen’s impact at Galatasaray, highlighting the growing influence of Nigerian forwards in the Süper Lig this season.

Paul Onuachu

Onuachu has been in red-hot form, leading the league’s scoring chart with 22 goals and contributing significantly to Trabzonspor’s attacking output. The 2.01m striker has accounted for a huge share of his team’s goals and recently set a club record for consecutive scoring games, further cementing his status as their main attacking weapon.

His importance was evident when Trabzonspor dropped points in his absence, ending a strong winning run that had kept them firmly in the title race. Analysts and fans alike pointed to his absence as a decisive factor, reinforcing the idea that the team is heavily reliant on his presence in the final third.

Ercan summed it up bluntly, insisting that Onuachu’s value to Trabzonspor mirrors Osimhen’s role at Galatasaray, where the Napoli-born striker has established himself as one of the most decisive forwards in Europe.

Osimhen’s own importance has been equally clear. The Super Eagles forward, who joined Galatasaray in a record-breaking deal, has delivered goals consistently and remains central to their title charge.

The rivalry between both clubs has also brought the two strikers into direct focus. In one of the season’s defining clashes, Trabzonspor secured a 2-1 victory over Galatasaray, with Onuachu opening the scoring and playing a key role in the win.

With Galatasaray, Trabzonspor, and Fenerbahce locked in a tight title race, the performances of both Nigerian strikers could ultimately decide where the Süper Lig trophy lands.
