Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is hoping to remain at Celtic beyond this summer, with the Nigerian forward eager to sign a new deal despite attracting interest from clubs outside Scotland.
According to Football Insider, Iheanacho’s priority is to continue his career at Parkhead after enjoying a productive spell with the Scottish champions.
The 29-year-old is currently a free agent after Celtic allowed the option to extend his contract to expire. Even so, both the player and the club are understood to be open to continuing their relationship if an agreement can be reached.
Iheanacho joined Celtic last season and established himself as an important member of the squad. Although injuries restricted his playing time, he still delivered when it mattered most.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City forward scored five Scottish Premiership goals, several of them coming at crucial moments in Celtic’s title-winning campaign.
Among his biggest contributions were late winning goals against Hibernian and Motherwell after the league split, helping Celtic maintain their momentum in the race for the title.
He also made his mark in the Scottish FA Cup, finding the net in Celtic’s final victory over Dunfermline at Hampden Park. That performance further strengthened his reputation as a reliable player in big matches, with his impact often coming from the bench.
Reports suggest Iheanacho’s time at Celtic has been a positive experience for both parties. The Nigeria international is settled at the club and would welcome the opportunity to spend another season in Glasgow.
However, Celtic could face competition for his signature. Several clubs, including teams from Turkey, are monitoring his situation following the expiry of his contract and could make a move in the coming weeks.
Presently, Iheanacho’s preference remains clear. The Super Eagles forward wants to stay at Celtic, but his future will depend on whether the Scottish champions offer him fresh terms before rival clubs step up their interest ahead of the new season.
