Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that Nigerian-eligible forward Owen Oseni will remain at the club ahead of the 2026/27 campaign after including him on their retained list following the end of the season.
The 22-year-old striker has increasingly attracted attention in Nigerian football circles after reports emerged that he is interested in representing the Super Eagles despite being eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland and Ivory Coast.
Oseni, who was born in Waterford, Ireland to a Nigerian father and an Ivorian mother, enjoyed an impressive season with Plymouth Argyle in League One, finishing the campaign with 10 goals and five assists across all competitions.
The forward remains under contract with Plymouth Argyle until June 2028, a sign that the English club views him as an important part of their long-term plans.
Reports earlier this year claimed that new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle had opened communication with Oseni ahead of Nigeria’s planned international fixtures and the Unity Cup tournament.
Unlike several dual-nationality players who eventually committed their futures elsewhere, Oseni is yet to represent Ireland or Ivory Coast at senior level, leaving the door fully open for Nigeria. The striker also reportedly possesses a valid Nigerian passport, meaning there are no eligibility complications if he receives a call-up from the Nigeria Football Federation.
Oseni’s rise has been rapid over the last two years. After spells with Gateshead and St Mirren, the powerful centre-forward established himself at Plymouth Argyle with a string of standout performances that have also drawn transfer interest from clubs outside England.
His combination of pace, physical presence and finishing ability has made him one of the emerging Nigerian-eligible attackers being monitored closely ahead of the next international window.
Meanwhile, Plymouth Argyle also confirmed that defender Nathanael Ogbeta will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
