Former John Obi Mikel has raised fresh concerns over Chelsea’s leadership, openly questioning the club’s direction following a turbulent period marked by constant managerial changes.

The ex-Super Eagles captain, who spent over a decade at Stamford Bridge, did not hold back in his latest assessment of the Blues’ structure since the takeover by BlueCo in 2022.

Chelsea’s instability on the touchline has become a major talking point, with multiple permanent managers shown the exit door in quick succession. For Mikel, that level of inconsistency is damaging a club once known for its clear identity and winning culture.

Liam Rosenior, former Chelsea head coach is seen at Craven Cottage, London.

Speaking from his experience as a key figure during one of Chelsea’s most successful eras, Mikel suggested that the current hierarchy must take responsibility for the lack of continuity and direction at the club.

The 2013 AFCON winner believes the constant reshuffling behind the scenes is affecting performances on the pitch, with players struggling to adapt to ever-changing tactical setups and philosophies.

Mikel’s latest remarks add to a growing list of criticisms he has made about Chelsea in recent weeks. The former midfielder has repeatedly pointed to issues ranging from leadership gaps within the squad to tactical confusion under recent managers.

Having won multiple major honours during his time in London, including the UEFA Champions League, Mikel’s voice carries weight among fans who have watched the club drift away from its traditional standards.

Despite his criticism, the Nigerian legend remains hopeful that Chelsea can rediscover stability, but insists that decisive and consistent leadership will be key to any long-term revival.

With pressure continuing to mount, all eyes will now be on how the club responds both on and off the pitch as they look to steady the ship and rebuild their identity.
